Brighton mayor under fire

Posted 1 year ago

Tue, May 8th, '12 - 10:39 am

Another tense meeting of Brighton council last night.

At issue was Mayor Mark Walas’s personal investigation into the purchase of a plow truck for the community.

The Integrity Commissioner had said Walas overstepped his authority as Mayor.

Last night, he was accused of changing his story on the issue, and both resident Bob Chorney and councillor Tom Rittwage asked him to resign.

He did not. Mayor Walas said he’d been in business in Brighton for over 20 years, and did not “lie, cheat, or steal”.

Okay, all of these people need to step down. They are all fighting like children and never focus on the betterment of the community. I know a few people who were looking to move into the area that were aprehensive because of Brighton’s “bickering” council. When people are worried about moving into Brighton because council can’t get along? Obviously something’s gotta change. This is getting embarassing.

Brighton council has acted like this for the last 15 years. It’s just the way it’s always been. You give a small town person a little power and a title and this is what you get.
