Tyendinaga Township council is against a proposed new landfill facility near their eastern border.
Last night councillors discussed theĀ Beachwood Road Environmental Centre, which proposes a landfill and a recycling and organics centre just off Deseronto Rd.
Township CAO Steve Mercer says the ground doesn’t work well for a dump.
Mercer says there’s plenty of Ontario land where there’s a deep clay base, perfect for a facility such as this.
Waste Management says the Beechwood Rd. facility could create up to 75 jobs for the Tyendinaga/ Napanee region.

Tyendinaga Township will be against everything anyone or company wishes to do around them unless it’s going to bring Tyendinaga Township money or better their land. They don’t want to work at the new environmental centre they just want to cause problems or receive free money. It would not bring so much against Tyendinaga if they would clean up their own land and worry about what they are doing not what everybody else wants to do and how they can cause an issue to try and stop it. Look at all the stuff going on in Deseronto that gets stopped. Everyone is afraid of loosing their business.
You can give it all sorts of fancy names, but a dump is still a dump.
Jay – of course council will be against everything unless there is something in it for the township- that’s why we elected them. As far as money or improving land, council has turned down money offered by waste management because this is not about money, its about quality of water for the residents. The site will do nothing to improve the quality of the land. (Comment removed.)
