Slots parlour and Quinte Ex under review

The slim prospect of a slots parlour and what’s happening with the Quinte Exhibition site are big questions in Belleville right now.
With the announcement that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission has cut the Bell Boulevard site loose, Mayor Neil Ellis says he’s not surprised.
Mayor Ellis says now it’s all about provincially-mandated zones, whereby each chosen municipality would get a share of revenues from private casinos. He expects that not to happen for another five years, if at all.
And the Mayor says the city is taking a hard look at the lease with Quinte Exhibition in the west end, saying parts of the lease are null and the contract should be reviewed. He says the city has to look at what income it can get from its properties.
