Pioneer gardeners to be picked by lottery

Posted 1 year ago

Tue, May 15th, '12 - 12:48 pm

Belleville residents with a green thumb but no garden in the back yard, will have a chance to plant some seeds this season.

Last night City Council approved the development of a community garden pilot project at Ponton Park on Dundas  St. W.

Chair of the city’s Green Task Force, Councillor Tom Lafferty, says a lot of people have expressed an interest in growing their own food.

A total of 20 garden beds will be developed and Councillor Lafferty says there’s so much interest that the lucky gardeners will be chosen by a lottery.
