“Methadone clinics” to be defined

Posted 1 year ago

Tue, May 8th, '12 - 1:07 pm

A proposal to define “methadone clinics” within Belleville’s by-laws went back to the drawing board at last night’s Planning Committee meeting.

The idea was to differentiate methadone clinic zoning from regular  medical clinics.

But Dr. Brian  Hadley, who runs a methadone clinic at the Bayview Mall, told the committee “that these aren’t crazy people or people who have fallen out of the sky.”

Dr. Hadley says the College of Physicians and Surgeons wants to streamline the process and take away the stigma from this addiction by including the methadone patients within the family doctors’ practices.

The committee tabled the issue for a staff report on this new  possibility.

Yeah methadone is just another drug too easily given out and a legal way to be all high 24/7 … at the expense of tax payers. Eats away the body and the mind but hey the METHADONE CLINICS ARE GETTTING RICHER!!!!!!! I’d believe they care about getting clients clean if only they would cut off the drug users who don’t give up their illegal drugs for the worst one of all METHADONE

I think the only way for an addict to get better would be to go cold turkey (Comment removed.) I don’t want to pay for this with my tax dollars… and how do these people get to and from the clinic? I hope they aren’t driving.

(Comments removed.) I disagree with Hadley… there are children, elderly, ill, and vulnerable people who seek medical attention every day with their family physicians who shouldn’t be put at risk to try and protect the feelings of drug addicts. (Comments removed.) I’ve been in recovery 4 years now, and know I am responsible for my own actions, and the way people felt about me as a result of those actions, trying to take away the stigma only reinforces the misconception that being an addict isn’t the drug users fault… that they have a disease… it has nothing to do with that, and everything to do with self control.

If you are an addict and become pregnant, methadone is a safer option. However, it is too easily given out! Most people I know on methadone have been on it longer than they were addicted to drugs! It is a huge hit on tax dollars. Those on methadone get cab rides daily(free) from Trenton to Belleville. But if you are over the age of 65 and need life saving measures like dialysis, no funding? They have to pay out of their own pocket, most living on OAS. So to the those who have lived and worked a long life, suck it up, but those who have substance abuse issues here’s your fix, free of charge! Where’s the logic?

A lot of people can’t quit cold they will die and methadone is a good program if people use it proper but the problem is they stay on it for ever they need to make a plan to get people off of it but they don’t u should only be allowed on it for so long and that’s it. And you complain about tax dollars if these people didn’t have there methadone your tax dollar would go to paying for them to be locked for breaking into your houses cars and such or robbing from your kids. Yes it’s sad to say but everything has its ups and downs.

Is methadone only prescribed to people who were/are addicted to heroine or are there other drugs besides heroine?

I do notice however that a large part of my first comment was removed (likely due to my painting a certain person in the article in a negative light).. i assume freedom of speech is not okay on this website… however, i understand they are afraid to allow readers to “rock the boat”
