Quinte West has fast become a place known for its friendliness toward water buffalo.
The meat of the animal is a delicacy low in sodium, and its yogourts and cheeses are popular for their pure white colour and richness.
Frank Aballe says he’s moved his successful business to Quinte West from Vermont because it has the only municipal government that wanted to cooperate.
Aballe says he’ll hire between three and five local people to help at his meat-curing operation on Hamilton Road once he gets established.
The Bufala di Vermont operation in Quinte West will dry-cure meat from the animals raised on its Quebec farm.
The water buffalo at another local farm – The Ontario Water Buffalo Company in Stirling - are originally from Aballe’s herd in Vermont.
