Teens charged in dog’s drowning

Posted 1 year ago

Mon, Apr 30th, '12 - 3:56 pm

Two teens have been charged after police found a dog dead in Napanee.

OPP say the dog was found underwater at the Kimmett Side Road quarry, chained to a make-shift anchor to ensure the animal drowned.

Police say they did multiple interviews as part of their investigation and as a result have charged 18-year-olds, Carl Wood and Travis Haaksman, with killing or injuring an animal.

The two are due in court on May 29.

  2. Vee says:

That is just sick. What freaks.

  3. Pete S says:

an eye for an eye sounds about fair…

  4. Animal lover says:

    This is revolting.
They should most definitely spend jail time and rot. How can we live in such a messed up society?

  5. Sue says:

This is called murder and too bad we don’t carry the death penalty for such acts as this. They surely deserve it!

  6. Janette Hamilton says:

I spoke to an employee at the OSPCA investigations branch in the Napanee area earlier today (I am sorry I did not think to write down your name)They do not know much about the case, as it is in the hands of the OPP, but are expecting the body of the dog to be brought to them for autopsy. It must still be determined whether the dog was drowned, or whether it was dead from other causes before being weighted down and thrown into the water. I believe anyone who is capable of any kind of abuse to be a danger to society, but (and I really do hate to say this believe me!) until autopsy confirms drowning or other abuse as the cause of death, we must keep in mind that as ludicrous as most of us animal advocates find it, the law must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime has taken place. While I am sure the autopsy will bear out our worst fears we do have to keep an open mind because springing to snap judgement and harmful action makes us no better than those we wish to see punished. Just sayin’.

  7. Fran says:

Totally sick and heartless. I hope they pay for what they have done to a helpless animal to the maximum of the law. It is proven that sick people like them normally start with animal cruelty and the go on to human. What will they do next???

  8. Tamalin Vajda says:

Can’t find the words to say how sick these two are. Wish they had to be put in a room with me for a little while.

  9. Sue says:

Keep an eye out for these names, I’m sure we’ll be hearing then quite often in the future. Acts like this are just the beginning for a very warped personality.

  10. Lynn Whitaker says:

When are we going to get stiffer cruelty laws, as long as we have such lax laws, awful things like this will keep happening. There needs to be huge fines, which are paid to local shelters and rescue groups, and instead of jail time, which costs all tax payers, the guilty should have to do their jail time working cleaning out dog cages at shelters and rescues and raise funds for vet care of homeless animals. These 2 should be made an example of, they are sick people and a slap on the hand just won`t do.

  11. Carly says:

2 little psychopaths in the making! The penalty will not fit the crime!

  12. manders says:

clearly need to be tried as adults they are future murderers right there … ( don’t they say that’s how it starts) they need major psychotherapy … really sick

  13. mike says:

this is a disgusting act that if left unpunished will lead to bigger crimes down the road. This how serial killers get their start.

  14. Cait says:

This is disgusting, if they could do this to an animal, what’s stopping them from doing this to a person? They need to be charged and need some serious disipline. More action needs to be taken, they are adults, they need to be treated like one. If they get away with this, this won’t be a lesson, this will just be something more people will think they can get away with.

  15. connie wood says:

Makes me ashamed to share the last name(don’t know if related) (Comments removed.) young children know better then that and that its wrong but at 18 you have to be very sick in the head but the saddest thing is that they will get a slap on the wrist and they will joke with their budies about this for years to come when will we learn that if people can do this kinda sick crime to a animal they can do it to a child or another human how meny serial killers tell about killing animals first before people.???? Come on people think time should fit the crime…..

  16. Raine says:

Terrible how can anyone kill a dog this way such hatred from these two.

  17. tam says:

a very sad picture of humanity.

  18. Lisa says:

Hope they get a good punishment (a few years in jail maybe?). Statistics show serial killers, sociopaths and psychopaths got their “beginnings” on animals and it progresses from there. What kind of parents raise kids to have no respect for another living creature…human or not.

  19. david mulville says:

Shameful is right…. High quality people they are… 18 really??

  20. jkacbe says:

Commit these two names to memory as almost certainly they are dangerous individuals. Hope there is no leniency shown to them. Despicable “people”.

  21. Kelli says:

This makes me very angry. Those teens are very disturbed and deserve the highest form of punishment that the law will allow. I can only hope that the judge that is in charge of this case realizes what a danger this pair are, and that this act was probably not their first and will most likely not be their last unless they are stopped now

  22. CJ2012 says:

Unfortunately I know the (person) who did this. He lived in the same neighborhood as i did for many years and he has been doing this kind of thing since he was a little boy ……

  23. D says:

Totally disgusting, maybe that should be the punshiment they shall receive!

  24. Tracey says:

thats where it starts they say… what is this world coming to… is this the kind of “FUN” these kids require now adays…very sad indeed…

  25. Grahams says:

18…. no longer a child but a young adult. This is disgusting. Sounds like two very sick young adults.

  26. suzann says:

Disgusting!! I hope they get serious jail time for there crime!!

  27. Katie says:

disgusting… and exactly right that we will see their names again in the future… terrified for my daughter to grow up in this society and what it has become and will only get worse I don’t doubt.

  28. murph says:

Despicable is not the work unfortunately they may only receive 6 month in jail and a possible 2 years from owing animals this is just a step for what is yet to come this is the definite link starting with animal abuse to more violent crimes FACT: MOST PEOPLE THAT KILL HARMLESS ANIMALS JUST FOR THE THRILL GO ON TO BIGGER AND MORE HANUS CRIMES THIS ONLY DESENSITIZES THEM FOR THE NEXT VICTIM JUST LOOK AT JEFFERY DAHMER. God help the victims that are next to come.

  29. Adam says:

(Comments removed.) Anyone who can do this to an innocent animal really needs to be assessed for mental health issues.

  30. sdmarvin says:

Well, as sick as it is, the Trudeau Park ringleader got 6 yrs for ending a human being’s life … No one better holding their breath for anything more than probation here or you’ll be severely disappointed.

  31. mike says:

worst of it is read the whig files they will only get a $1000 fine a years probation and prohibited from having an animal for 3 years that is it ill bet on it and that is a higher end of the fines

  32. taxayer says:

I think the Police interagation should include waterboarding , lots and lots of waterboarding !Nutering would also be a good place to start,Lets call it preventitive matinance,We do not need that gene pool extended !

  33. marion mac donald says:

Anyone that would do this to an animal can you imagine what they would do to a child. They say that if they start killing animal’s when they are young they progress to human’s next. I would like to spend a few minutes with these two people i would show them the kind of treatment they deserve. I am an animal lover and i just can’t stand people that abuse animal’s. I have two pug’s and one was severely abused before i got him and he was only two year’s old. We need stricter law’s for people that abuse animal’s heavy fines and lot’s of jail time.if you can do the crime you should be able to do the time.

  34. Sarah says:

this is sick ….. when i found out this happend i was litterally sick to my stomouch and cried all day .. i thnk people like this should never ever have the privlage of having any kind of animal ever again and have the MAXIMUM punishment !

  35. Crystal says:

I would not say and eye for an eye. Why not give them jail time for a long time and let them rot and suffer just like that poor little pooch did

  36. Christy says:

    this disgusts me….

  37. Kristina says:

As sick as it is this is not the first place things like this have occurred, nor will it be the last (unfortunately). I agree that this is the basis for serial killers and murderers, but not one person can ask the question of how can parents raise such disprectful kids? Truth be told, we can teach our children right from wrong, we can teach them good morals, and instill it in their brain until our own heads want to explode, but they will still make their own choices and their own decisions. Don’t look down at the parents (unless you know them inside out and know how they raise their kids). It’s not fair to the parents or the families of the individuals. Who are we to judge people we do not know?

  38. Wayne Parker says:

I can not believe this anyone who has a pet dog or cat know its part of their family. This is one of the most inhumane acts a person could do. Unfortunately their punishment will not equal the crime.

  39. steve marshall says:

those requesting the death penalty here…lets get a grip, its a freaken dog.
