A major campaign to bring the subject of mental illness more out-in-the-open has been launched in Belleville.
Last night, city council was told that the stigma attached to mental illness is dangerous in that it often delays treatment. Spokesperson for Family Support Network of the Hastings and Prince Edward Mental Health Services, Lorraine Pyle, says the campaign “Out of the Darkness” is an anti-stigma campaign.
Pyle says the idea is to get people talking about mental illness.
Wrist bands will be available throughout the month and a “celebration ” will be held May 8 at Market Square.
