More information is coming out about the contract talks between unionized workers and Norampac’s parent company Cascade.
Sources tell our newsroom that most union members rejected the offer because of what is being taken away.
The offer removes shift premiums on nights, resulting in considerably lower pay for those working that shift.
Meantime Premier Dalton McGuinty says he hopes cooler heads will prevail and the two sides will find common ground in the discussions.

Norampac is planning to close this mill whether or not the union signs the contract. They have been threatening the workers with closure of the mill for the last two years. Right now the workers have more to lose if they accept the company demands than if the plant closes.
