It appears the Norampac site in Belleville will be getting a big capital investment.
Parent company Cascades has announced 30-million dollars for its sites in Vaughn, Saint Mary’s, Etobicoke and Belleville.
C-E-O Marc-André Dépin says the investment will optimize productivity and improve customer service.
Dépin says new equipment at the Belleville plant would allow employees from three other closed plants, Mississauga, Peterborough and North York, to apply for transfer to new jobs in the Belleville plant.
This would not involve workers at the Trenton plant.
Meanwhile, company spokesperson Genvieve Boyer says there’s nothing new on negotiations between Cascades and the union representing workers at the Trenton plant, which is slated for closure in June.
The Belleville Norampac facility currently employees 85 people on University Avenue.
