There could be two changes coming to fishing policies along Zone 20… which stretches from Niagara Falls to the Quebec border… and includes the Bay of Quinte.
The first change centres around the start of bass season.
Research has shown since water temperatures rise sooner in the year… Bass are finished spawning sooner… meaning the start of the season could be moved up.
The second has to do with the catch weight of Muskies, after a V-H-S outbreak in the mid-2000′s.
The majority of Muskies that died due to the outbreak were mature… so the Ministry of Natural Resources wants to up the minimum catch size from 122 centimetres to 137… in order to help more fish reach their mature stage and help breeding.
