Fire doused before extensive damage

Quick action by the Belleville fire department yesterday afternoon kept damage to a minimum at an apartment building.

Firefighters responded to an apartment fire on Turnbull Street.

They were able to keep the fire from spreading to other apartments in the building.

Damage to the apartment involved was estimated at 75 thousand dollars.

Fire officials say the flames were caused by careless smoking.
