Don’t get needled in Quinte

The Hastings and Prince Edward Health Unit has issued a warning that spring can uncover some unwanted items in public places, including syringes that pose a health hazard.

Used  needles can carry HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses.

Spokesperson Stephanie McFaul says anyone stabbed with a needle should seek immediate medical attention.

McFaul says parents should teach children what a syringe looks like and advise them never to touch one.

Property owners have the legal responsibility for removing used syringes from their property, but they can get assistance from the health unit or the police.
