Prince Edward Hastings MPP Todd Smith says this week’s drop in Ontario’s credit rating was a “warning to the government that its budget isn’t taking the debt problem in Ontario seriously.”
Smith was commenting on the announcement by Standard & Poors that it had put Ontario on a negative credit rating.
Smith says that of the survey responses he’s received from his recent newsletter, the province’s debt is one of the issues foremost in the minds of his constituents.
He accused Finance Minister Dwight Duncan of “fiddling while Ontario burns.”
