There was no mention of it in the budget, but the Prince Edward Hastings Health Unit is asking the province to pay people on welfare more money.
The local health unit board has formally endorsed a resolution from Kingston asking that another 100 dollars a month be paid to those on social assistance to help pay for healthy food.
In their recent budget proposal, the provincial government said it planned on holding social assistance payments at the same level as they were last year.
The provincial budget has not been passed yet.

I work 40+ hours a week, and with inflation, and the increased costs of living, I would like to know who makes sure my children have the ability to access healthy food. Do middle class working people qualify?
I agree and I am sure that extra money won’t always go to the healthy end of eating either. They should be given a voucher and only for the purchase of fruits and vegetables lets see them scream about that.
this is absolutely absurd! i agree with M.A. who is there to help the middle class working poor people? thats right no one! the government so needs to overhaul all of its programs immediately they are so outdated its not funny dont give them more money pay the good food box or the good baby box program etc and have them go pick it up once a month at least then another program is getting funding and the kids are getting some nutritious stuff once a month they already get their rent paid, hydro paid, dental programs and sports activities for kids there are a lot of people that work that cant afford dental for their kids but cant get help because they work grrr…this annoys me
