Belleville Police officer charged

A Belleville Police officer has been charged by the province’s Special Investigations Unit.
Constable Jeff McNevin, of the canine unit, is charged with assault causing bodily harm.
The incident occurred on January 10.
A statement released by the SIU says that in the early afternoon hours, after a short pursuit by police, Nolan’s pursued vehicle crashed in the area of the Public Works Yard building located at 75 Wallbridge Crescent.
He left the vehicle, and was later located in the works yard by officers and a police dog.
There was “an interaction” and Nolan sustained serious dog bite injuries to his right leg.
As a result of the investigation, the SIU charged Constable McNevin, the handler of the dog.
The SIU gets called to investigate whenever a member of the public is injured in the course of a police investigation.
Constable McNevin is scheduled to appear in court on May 24.
I think the question should also be why Nolan was bitten if he was under arrest and did not listen or come to the police and had to chased down or was hiding and they needed the dog then he deserves all the bites he gets.

Thats Pithetic! Police Dogs dont attack for nothin. Oviously he was running away and diserves to get bitten! Besides if its the Nolan Im thinkin of then he diserves everything he got.
Are you kidding me????? the guy fled police and then left the scene of an accident again fleeing the police….. give it up SIU he is what is called a criminal. If the dog bit numerous times maybe he was doing something to the dog. it is trained to restrain people but maybe the guy was beating it untill the officer arrived or something and we can not all control what animals do … hence “animals” even the lion handler gets attacked at one point and connot control his animal. but to get back to the point the guy is a criminal ….. and fled police more then once in the same night.. Cstbl McNevin puts his life on the line everyday to protect us from criminals and harm and were gonna have him charged because his dog bit a criminal that was flee so that he may do the same crime again …. wow society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
isn’t a police dog cosidered a member of the force,if so charge the dog not the handler. Nolan should have surrended,decided to run suffer.

Constable McNevin doesnt deserve this crap, He and his K9 were carrying out there duty’s and risking life and limb to do so. Police digs are trained to bite if they are being attack and since this guy fled police on more then one occasion during this incident i can only bet that this perp tried to take a few shots on the dog. I praise Constable McNevin and his Partner for what they do everyday, This officers deserve respect not this crap.

If he hadn’t of run, he wouldn’t of been bit. I can’t believe this is actually going to court…
Give me a break. The dog and trainer went through extensive training to learn how to do exactly what the dog and trainer did. Catch the guy who wouldn’t stop for police and was fleeing and hiding from police. Great job. So sorry Constable McNevin has to be put through this.
I have known Jeff McNevin all his life, and I can tell you that he is a person who knows right from wrong, and behaves accordingly. As for the SIU, remember the old saying about surgeons “when you’re a hammer, everything is a nail”. Maybe the SIU should spend a few dark cold nights in unfamiliar surroundings, facing potentially deadly foes and unknown risks. Maybe they should be forced to make split second, life-and-death decisions, rather than having the luxury of spending months sifting through the information 9-to-5 in a safe, warm office.
Anyone who has the stamina to go through all the tough training to be a canine officer has to have a real passion to do good and proctect the public from all the scum that it out there should be awarded instead of going through all this crap.
Is there a quota that the SIU is trying to meet? A little down on charged officers for 2012? I understand the purpose of the SIU, but seriously Jeff McNevin should be rewarded for his heroism, not punished for trying make Belleville a safer city. He risks his life everyday and I for one am very thankful that he is there! Nolan was not out for a walk in a park. Clearly he was committing a crime, and clearly fleeing the police. I would think the Police Service would have much larger issues if the officers were not responding! SIU walks in after the fact with no clue of the situation at that moment, and punishes a hero because a criminal, committing a crime, got a bit of a bite and needed a bandaid? Couldn’t have been that bad, it didn’t even make the news! Jeff McNevin deserves our thanks and praise for a job well done!
