Turmoil on Brighton council

Posted 1 year ago

Fri, Mar 30th, '12 - 9:07 am

It’s official!! A provincial government Integrity Commissioner has called the Municipality of Brightons’ council “dysfunctional”.

Integrity Commissioner Fred Dean has released a report following complaints made by councillor Craig Kerr against councillor John Martinello and Mayor Mark Walas.

The Commissioner says Kerr and Martinello dislike each other and their conduct at council meetings breaches a code of conduct.

He says Martinello is abusing staff by trying to micromanage situations, which is not a councillors’ role.

The Commissioner also says Mayor Mark Walas broke purchasing by law rules, and should have declared conflicts of interest during closed meetings.

A special meeting of Brighton council will be set to discuss the Integrity Commissioners’ report.

Dysfunctional? WOW, that’s the understatement of the year.

Brighton town council has been Dysfunctional for the 20years I’ve been old enought I vote and they are just figuring this out now?

Good luck with this. (Comments removed.) Election time will be here before you know it. Maybe the residents of Brighton will make a stronger effort to make their voices heard when that time comes around again.
