Emotional goodbye

An emotional moment at Hastings County Council yesterday when one councillor announced his retirement and another thanked him for saving his life.

Mayor of Hastings Highlands, and former Warden of Hastings County, Ron Emond, said he is stepping down from both positions.

As members paid tribute, Mayor Norm Clarke of Deseronto wiped tears from his eyes and thanked Emond for saving his, Clarke’s, life.

Mayor Clarke said that last year when he fell in the parking lot, Emond insisted he go hospital and waited with him for 5-hours before he was taken to Kingston where he was treated for a heart attack.
