Drunk driver pleads guilty

A 27-year old Bancroft man who led police on a high-speed chase in December has pleaded guilty in Belleville court.

Maurice Victor Martin today pleaded guilty to charges of impaired driving and flight from police.

Martin was originally stopped at a ride check on Highway 62 back in December but hastily drove away before police could check his vehicle.

Police chased him to Sidney St in Belleville where he was stopped and then ran away. Martin was eventually caught attempting to enter a residence on Tripp Blvd and was taken into custody.

Sentencing will be on March 27 in Bancroft.
