Come to the “dark side”

Posted 1 year ago

Fri, Mar 30th, '12 - 9:12 am

There’ll be an environmentally friendly excuse to sit around and cuddle in the dark tomorrow  evening.

Earth Hour will be celebrated worldwide by shutting off lights, and other power using equipment, between 8:30 and 9:30 tomorrow night.

Earth Hour is meant to show how much greenhouse gas can be eliminated by simply cutting back on the use of electricity.

And, communities throughout the Quinte region will observe Earth Hour.

The lights will be out, and heating systems shut down for the hour at various area municipal buildings and arenas.

Sounds like a good time to do the laundry, and watch a movie while drying my hair waiting for the roast to cook.

    Earth day? (Comment removed.)

I notice “Earth Hour” is after prime use of electricity hours when we have to use power to be able to afford it with the “smart Meters”. How about we move Earth Hour to 2 pm and everything shuts down for an hour. Now that would really be impressive. Of course it could never happen or all these hydro companies would have To find someone to take the surplus electricity.

I’m celebrating Human Achievement Hour instead: http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/019706.html

It is a joke. Nothing but symbolism. Ask the people who are going to “be involved”, if they would be willing to do it for 1 hour a day, everyday for the month of April…

It isn’t about saving the environment, it is just for political correctness to make people feel better about themselves.

  5. Nick says:

A fine opportunity to sit outside with the neighbours and burn some used tires for light and warmth…

Of course it is symbolism. 1 hour isn’t enough but it does drive the point home with the amount of greenhouse gases we could be eliminating. As for doing it at 2pm it would cast businesses a lot of money that they depend on electricity. Tim Hortons alone would lose thousands just in the quinte area. The symbol it is supposed to be showing is to cut back on the amount of electricity we use. Why have 2 or 3 lights on while watching tv In the evening? Use one. Cut back and save. Stop being selfish people. Dunno if I miss spelt anything. I’m a victum of spell check.
