Ontario PC Leader Visits Belleville

Tim Hudak is promising improvements to health care and shorter wait times for people in Quinte looking for space at a long term care home. The PC leader is in Belleville to speak to the Rotary Club but stopped by for a visit on the Lorne Brooker Show on CJBQ. He says they need to make sure those who are in long term care homes and those who need the spots get them. Hudak adds the root of the problem is while there is plenty of money going into health care it isn’t going to front line services or long term care.
Hudak says too much money is being wasted on the Local Health Integration Networks which are anything but local and a new layer of fat middle management. Hudak says as premier he would scrap the LHIN’s and put every penny into front line health care.

The love of loud music has resulted in criminal charges against a Madoc man.

Police arrested a man for mischief, but he was uncooperative, and resisted, assaulting an officer. Cramahe CUPE dispute update

The Ontario Labour Relations Board is expected to make a decision next week on how many Cramahe Township municipal employees can join the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Twenty-five of the 34 non-administrative workers cast ballots on January 19th in a certification vote, with 14 in favour and four opposed, and seven votes not counted because they were challenged by either the union or the township. CUPE official Debbie Oldfield says both sides still haven’t reached an agreement on the seven, so the issue will go to the O-L-R-B on February ninth if it isn’t resolved by then. The workers needed only 50 per cent plus one of the votes cast in favour to become part of the union.

Walker was charged with two counts each of robbery, breach of probation and wearing a face mask while committing an indictable offence. Eastern Ontario Mayors meet in Kingston

About 20 Eastern Ontario Mayors, including John Williams of Quinte West and Peter Mertens of Prince Edward County, have met in Kingston, their first gathering since last fall’s municipal election..

Quinte West mayor John Williams chaired the morning summit at city hall, as part of a meeting to bring strength in numbers when it comes to lobbying senior governments for more funding. The mayor says there are common challenges they’re going to face over the next four years in office. Williams also said there has been a lot of support from the provincial and federal governments for the infrastructure issues they face together, but there are still challenges in making sure the two senior levels of government remain aware of local needs.
