Contact Newspaper Changes Hands

The Contact newspaper at CFB Trenton is the latest acquisition of Metroland Media….resulting in the layoff of six employees. As of Monday, the 8-Wing newspaper is part of the Toronto Star family of newspapers. Deputy Manager of the 8-Wing’s Personnel Support Programs Todd Peddle says under a third party service provider it will be self-supportive. He says finances led to the decision.
The six employees include three full-time staff, one part-time and two contracted sales staff.
Peddle says the Contact is headed for print today and should be on the news stands on Friday.

As one of the three full time employees, it is sad to say that gross mismanagement of the finances at The Contact newpaper was the result of people loosing their livelyhood. Had the power to be’s listened to the actual staff at the newspaper, we would still be working today. I wonder how long it will take for Metroland Media to disban the 8 Wing paper that has been in publication since the early 1940’s. There will be no going back, however it will be with sad feelings that this small community paper will eventually be put to rest.
