It’s been a busy boating season on the Trent River in Quinte West. Nearly 900 boaters have docked at the Frankford Marina so far this year…that’s more than all of last season. Meantime, the Quinte West Economic Development Committee was brought up to speed, at last night’s meeting, on the progress toward a 380-slip marina to be constructed at the mouth of the Trent River in Downtown Trenton. Mayor John Williams says the Ministry of Environment and Parks Canada are ready to cooperate and the Feds and Province like the project. Tenders will go out next year for the marina building, landscaping and road with construction to begin in 2012 and the marina would begin operating after that. It’s hoped the 12-million dollar marina project will bring lots of economic spin-offs to the city
Trailer Burns Down in Tyendinaga
It’s been quiet out there for some time, but today there was some hot action out at the former Thurlow Aggregates Quarry in Tyendinaga Township.
At about 12:30 today, a vacant trailer at the north end of the quarry property burned to the ground.
Napanee OPP say someone was seen around the trailer before the fire, and was seen leaving the quarry on a bicycle..and shortly after that, the fire started.
The quarry is part of the Culbertson land tract, which is part of a Mohawk land claim. Mohawk protesters had barricaded the property in the past. The trailer was used by the protesters.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Napanee OPP, or Crimestopper. There could be a 2 thousand dollar reward.
