Tyendinaga Township budget set for mid-April

Tyendinaga Township Council is expected to set the 2010 municipal budget in mid-April.
C-A-O Steve Mercer says the preliminary document is just under three-million dollars, with residential and business property owners paying about two thirds of that. The tax increase would be around two-and-a-half per cent. One of the larger projects this year would be the construction of a new utility building at the recreation facility.
Tyendinaga Council will meet the week of April 18th to finalize the budget figures.
Tyendinaga Township welcome signs go up
Tyendinaga Township is letting motorists driving between Belleville and Napanee know just where they are.
C-A-O Steve Mercer says 18 signs, with the wording “Welcome to Tyendinga Township, Rural Living at it’s Best,” have been put up at 18 entrances to the municipality. Four were posted last autumn, and the other 14 went up over the past month. The signs cost 12-thousand dollars, and were supplied by D-M Enterprises of Belleville.
Two people arrested in east end Belleville
Two people arrested in Belleville’s east end after an assault involving a weapon.
City Police went to a Janlyn Crescent residence yesterday morning after getting a complaint about an alleged stabbing. Officers heard loud arguing and found a man and a woman inside. Further investigation resulted in a 42-year-old woman being charged with assault with a weapon, and a drug offence.. A 38 year old man is charged with Assault, Mischief and a drug offence.
Missing Woman’s Aunt Wonders Who Mystery Man Is
An aunt of a Belleville woman missing for more than two months would like to know a little bit more about a man seen with her niece the day before she disappeared.
Lisa Patrick says 27-year-old Deborah Rashotte was last seen at Saint Thomas’s Church in Belleville on January 26th, but wasn’t reported missing until mid-February. Patrick also wonders if a man, described as tall and thin with short cropped hair, spotted with Rashotte at the church on January 25th, knows anything about where she went. Rashotte, who is a schizophrenic, has a history of running away, and was the object of an intense police search near her father’s home in Actinolite in late February.
Easter Weekend Road Safety
As with every long weekend, commuters can expect to see an increased police presence along the highways this Easter weekend.
As we prepare for the long weekend, the recent arrival of Spring and the return of warm weather OPP predict an increase in traffic on many area roadways.
OPP will be looking out for the usual speeders, tail-gaters, and those who forget to strap on their belt. They will also be setting up random RIDE checks to ensure drunks stay off the roads.
Autism Awareness Day
World Autism Awareness Day will be celebrated this Friday across the globe.
In Belleville, Adam’s Hope is holding a Silent Auction fundraiser next Friday, April 9th to raise money for those living with Autism.
It is estimated that tens-of-millions of individuals are affected by autism world-wide. Data shows that an average of 1 in 110 children have an ASD and that over 300 thousand Canadians are living with ASD conditions.
The fundraiser will include a silent auction, live performance, wine tasting, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here, at Quinte Broadcasting, or at Bayshore Credit Union Belleville.
Local Health-care Providers Disclose Salaries
The results are out… in Kingston over 175 local health care providers topped the $100, 000 salaries list; with 130 of them employed at Kingston General.
Making the 300 thousand list are; Pathologist, Alexander Boag, raking in over $308, 000; Pathologist, Sandip Sengupta making almost $318, 000 and President and CEO, Leslee Thompson, bringing home $361, 538 and over $11, 000 in benefits.
But the Big Cheese is President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph De Mora making $439, 599.13! He also received over $3, 500 for benefits.
Doctors Day Celebrated in Quinte West
Doctors Day was celebrated yesterday at Quinte Healthcare-Trenton Memorial Hospital, where area physicians were recognized for the important role they play in our everyday life.
For the last 6 weeks the TMH Foundation has accepted donations to the “My Doctor is a Star” campaign. TMHF Executive Director, Wendy Warner, say every doctor honoured received a personalized “Star Award” and an invitation to the “Physicians Appreciation Reception.”
To date over 22 thousand dollars has been raised in this campaign to buy much needed medical equipment.
Warkworth Institution lockdown ends
The lockdown at Warkworth Institution has ended..
The restrictions on visiting and normal activities was ordered by the Acting Warden on Sunday afternoon to allow staff to search the facility. That came after the discovery of homemade weapons earlier in the day. A search of the medium security institution has been completed, and no other serious contraband was found. Regular visits resumed yesterday afternoon.
Careless driving charge laid in Bayside accident
A woman has been charged with careless driving following a three-vehicle accident in Bayside.
Quinte West O-P-P say traffic slowed for a school bus on Old Highway Two near Aikins Road yesterday afernoon, and a vehicle rear ended another, pushing it into another car. Two of the vehicles had to be towed away because of the extent of damage. The charged person, whose name wasn’t released, was treated at Trenton Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
