Seniors get calls from telephone scammers

Telephone fraud artists have been unsuccessful in conning two elderly Belleville residents.
City Police say a 91-year-old got a call from a man pretending to be her grandson requesting cash, claiming to be in jail after an accident. She challenged him, and he hung up.
An 87-year-old tried to buy a five-thousand dollar money order yesterday after getting a call from someone claiming to be a grandson needing money after an accident. However, bank staff advised family members be consulted first, and it turned out the call was a hoax.




It’s good that the bank employees are also on the lookout for seniors who are trying to get money sent to these crooks…
