One man is dead, another in Kingston hospital, and another in custody, after a shooting incident on Belleville’s east hill early this morning.   At a press conference this afternoon, Belleville Police Detective Inspector MIke Graham said that the man killed was 24 year old Roy Mays of Belleville who has family from the Read area.  The man injured was his 19 year old cousin, Justin Coughlan, of Belleville….a former basketball star at Quinte Secondary School.  The man charged with first degree murder, and attempted murder is 21 year old Myles Hughes of Belleville.

Belleville Deputy Police Chief Paul Vandegraff says the recent spate of shootings in the area has people on edge, but police services are working together to keep residents safe.

Police say a handgun was used in the shooting.  Hughes was arrested within 2 minutes of police officer’s arrival at 3:30 this morning.  The deceased was outside on the lawn.  There had been a large party at the house.  Hughes remains in custody and appears in court via video on March 25th.

Is there no quality control/spell check for these updates? They are very poorly written.

  2. Shawn says:

Maybe one of the problems with this area is people like “Chuckie”, are more concerned with spelling than they are with MURDERR. Sorry, did I spell that wrong.

  3. Greg says:

My thoughts are with the families of these three young people. I wonder how our children are getting access to weapons. I wonder why they think they need these weapons. it saddens me that they cannot just put them down….

  5. Shannon says:

I hardly think that spell check should be our biggest worry…

I also read the 1st report and there was parts that made no sence, so i know where chucky is coming from – the 1st report had spelling mistakes which made the article hard to read, likly typed fast and it also had the victim as a 29 year old with a 25 yr old recovring. as if anyone would be more concerned with spelling than “murderr” is beyond stupid shawn, you meathead. way to put words in ppl’s mouths
