Daylight break-ins under investigation

Belleville Police are investigating a string of daytime break-ins.
Police say the three incidents happened yesterday morning (May30).
At 7:30 a.m., police responded to a call of a break and enter at a North Front St. business, where police say a safe was stolen.
A half hour later, police were called to a business on Front St. with a break-in…where a small amount of cash was allegedly stolen.
An hour after that, at 9 a.m., police responded to a business at Farnham Rd., where the culprits reportedly did not steal anything; but rather spray painted the office.
The investigation continues.
Crash cleaned up in Belleville
Public Works was called in to clean up after a messy car crash with no injuries in Belleville.
City police say a three car accident blocked traffic at the intersection of North Front St. and Valleyview Cres. around 11 a.m. yesterday (May30).
Public Works came to remove debris and fluids from the scene and two vehicles had to be towed.
A 57 year old Belleville man is charged with failing to yield to traffic.
Mom allegedly takes young son on shoplifting spree
The Children’s Aid Society has been notified of an alleged shoplifting mom in Belleville.
City police on Friday afternoon responded to a call of a female shoplifter leaving the Quinte Mall with “a young child in tow”.
Police pursued the woman and arrested her on Bell Boulevard.
Police say they recovered stolen merchandise from three stores at the mall.
A 22-year-old woman was taken to the police station with her son and released with a promise to appear in court.
She is charged with multiple counts of theft and possession of stolen property.

Changes Must Come – Deline
Some Hastings County officials are concerned about changes to provincial safety and disability standards that will be costly for the municipalities.
Reeve of Centre Hastings Tom Deline hopes the province will provide some extra funding before the changes come into effect next year. Deline says his municipality has already identified some changes that need to be made. He says it will cost his municipality about half a million dollars even if the province comes up with some funding as well.
OLG Waiting For Baymount
The O-L-G is going to wait for Baymount before they start helping to make Belleville’s new racetrack a reality.
After a meeting with Mayor’s of Belleville and Quinte West yesterday… O-L-G representatives say Baymount… the company building the track… has to come up with the equity for the build before the O-L-G will help support it.
The O-L-G has entered into an agreement where it would put up just over 14 million dollars towards construction of the track.
Officials also said yesterday it’s not up to the O-L-G to determine a location for the track… should it not develop in Belleville… that’s up to the Ontario Racing Commission.
Cab Ride Gone Bad
A 50 year old Belleville man is awaiting a bail hearing after an incident on Belleville’s West-Side last night.
City police say they were called to Bridge Street West after a cab driver reported a problem with a fare.
When they arrived, officers say they were confronted by the man… and assaulted while they tried to arrest him.
Details on the confrontation were not released.
Police also say the unidentified suspect was also in possession of illicit drugs.
2 Hurt In Early Morning Crash
Police believe speed and alcohol may have been factors in a serious crash early this morning.
It happened on Highway 2 at Point Anne around 2am.
Police say a 36 year old man and 35 year old woman from Belleville were taken to B-G-H with undetermined non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation into the incident is continuing.
Griffon On The Go
A Griffon Helicopter from C-F-B Trenton is lending a hand to O-P-P south of Bracebridge.
The Trenton Rescue Centre says the chopper left around 2am to help in the search for a missing woman.
The O-P-P emergency response team and canine units started looking for the woman last night, but after encountering swampy and rough terrain, the Griffon was called in.
Brighton High School Goes Green…. or Silver
Six schools in the Kawartha-Pine Ridge District School Board have been certified through the Ontario Eco Schools project… including one in Quinte.
East Northumberland Secondary school earned a Silver ranking in it’s second year in the program… improving from a Bronze last year.
Certification in the Eco Schools program recognizes a schools environmental initiatives in energy conservation, waste minimization, ecological literacy and school ground greening.
School’s also have to re-apply for certification every year.
Belleville Minor Football – Week 3
Week three of the Belleville Minor Football League kicked off a little closer
than the last two.
The Trenton Kiwanis Tiger Cubs outlasted the Bayshore
Credit Union Chargers 26-21 at Trenton High last night.
John Rood had two
TD’s for Trenton while Nick Walker and Nick Prenzel each added majors.
Haydon Deacon had a pair of touchdown’s for the Chargers and was named their
player of the game.
Action resumes (at 10:30) this morning when Hotch’s
Autoparts takes on The Belleville Club.
