While it’s getting a little cold to be swimming in the Bay of Quinte.. the Hastings-Prince Edward Counties Health unit is coming out with a warning.
The Health Unit is telling people to avoid swimming in the Bay around West Zwick’s Park or the George Street boat launch due to blue-green algae… which can produce toxins and irritants.
The Health Unit also says you shouldn’t eat fish from these areas… or let children or pets come in contact with the water… if you notice the green surface scum… or discolouration to the water.
If you get your drinking water from the Bay of Quinte… boiling alone won’t make it safe… the Health Unit says you should contact local water treatment specialists.
