An unlucky break for a 20 year old who went AWOL from C-F-B Gagetown.
Quitne West police say they stopped a car on Dundas street West around 4:30 this morning… beleiving it had been involved in a gas siphoning incident.
The driver gave a number of fake names before coming clean with his real identity.
Police learned of his Canada-wide warrant under the National Defence act and have charged him with obstructing police.
They then turned him over to Military Police officers.
Halloween a night early in Belleville
Plenty of people got the halloween festivities started last night… and it made for a busy night for Belleville police.
Officers had to break up a fight on front street just before 1:00 this morning.
About a half hour laterreceived multiple 911 calls about a large disturbance outside a downtown bar.
Police responded and a 27 year old Belleville woman was charged with two counts of assaulting police.
Then… at 2:45 a 25 yuear old Quinte West man was arrested after damaging property at North Front Street bar.
Hydro out in listening area
High winds are blamed for power outages to over one thousand customers this morning.
Hydro One says customers in Bancroft, Trenton, Picton, and Tweed have been affected… and actions are being taken to restore power.
The Hydro provider hopes to have everything back up and running by 2:00 this afternoon.
Stirling Robbery Suspect Arrested in Frankford
It was a team effort by local police services in tracking down a robbery suspect at a Stirling grocery store. Stirling-Rawdon Police report the suspect emptied the safe at the Foodland, just after closing last night, and was slowed down by an employee before escaping in a silver Chevy Cavalier. A Stirling officer caught up to the suspect vehicle on Highway-33 and watched as it slammed into another vehicle in Frankford. A footchase ensued onto the golf course. Officers from Belleville and OPP from Centre Hastings and Quinte West joined the search before the Belleville K9 team arrested the suspect. 24-year old Thomas Edward Sams, of no fixed address, is charged with numerous offences. The stolen property was recovered.
Facebook Arrest in Belleville
Facebook can be addictive…..and, for a Belleville man….it’s resulted in a night in jail. City Police say a 44-year old man allegedly disobeyed a court order by sending messages to his ex-wife and other family members over the social website. He’d been ordered by the courts, last week, not to have any contact with his “ex” or her family. The suspect was arrested yesterday morning and charged with Disobeying a Court Order and Uttering Threats. He has a bail hearing today.
Costume Causes Concern in Belleville
False alarm….Belleville police were dispatched after receiving a call that a man wearing a balaclava was spotted downtown. Police located the young man in a ski mask standing on Front Street….and, he advised officers he was dressed as a ‘terrorist’ and on his way to a Halloween Costume party.
Belleville Court Officer Assaulted
A 45-year old Quinte West man….faces charges after allegedly attacking a court security officer in Belleville. City Police responded to the court building on Victoria Avenue, early yesterday afernoon, where a man was yelling profanities at the officers assigned to court security. The suspect, who was apperaring in court for another matter, punched one of the officers in the face. He’s been charged with two counts of Assaulting a Peace Officer. His name hasn’t been released.
At-home help on the way for small business
People wanting to set up a small business in Hastings County will soon get some “at home” help.
The idea is to hire someone who can give hands-on help to small business entrepreneurs right in their own kitchen. Administrator Jim Pine says there will also be a network of community people to help make this work. Hastings County has received a 55-thousand dollar federal grant. Pine says a facilitator will be hired and he expects the project to get underway by the end of November.
Two run for top post in Hastings County
There’s a race for warden in Hastings County this year.
Both Reeve Jo-Anne Albert of Tweed and Reeve Bob Sager of Madoc Township are in the running. Warden Ron Emond is stepping down after serving two one-year terms. The election will be held at the next regular meeting of County Council on November 26.
Another affordable housing request in Hastings County
Hastings County wants to build some affordable housing in Coe Hill, in the county’s north west.
Administrator Jim Pine says the county has applied to the province to construct a four-unit building. He says it would house seniors and there would be one unit for people with disabilities.
