Local Mayors don’t like some comments from the reviewer looking at Quinte Healthcare’s options to reduce its deficit.
Ken Tremblay suggested the mayors of Belleville, Quinte West, Brighton and Prince Edward County resign from the board if they aren’t willing to implement the cost-cutting initiatives.
However, Brighton Mayor Chris Herrington says Tremblay should have stuck to his main responsibility of reviewing the options presented by senior staff, and not commented on the governance of the board.
Quinte Healthcare will have to cut costs, possibly by closing dozens of beds at the Trenton and Picton hospitals, to reduce a projected 15-million dollar deficit by the end of the 2009-10 fiscal year.
